Variously SBIR involved in its early years, beginning December 2013 Boston Dynamics had operated as a subsiduary of Google, Inc. In June 2017, the firm had been acquired again - sold by Google - to the Japanese telecommunications and technology company SoftBank. An MIT spinoff involved in SBIR from 1998 through 2009, Boston Dynamics is an engineering company, developing robots and softwares for human simulation. It offers BigDog, a quadruped robot for travel on rough-terrain; PETMAN, an anthropomorphic robot for testing equipment; RISE, a robot that climbs vertical surfaces; and SquishBot, a shape-changing chemical robot that moves through tight space.
