In April 2021, it was announced that - in a $1.1billion controlling stake - Hyunda Motor Company had taken over Boston Dynamics from SoftBank. Variously SBIR involved in its early years, beginning December 2013 Boston Dynamics had operated as a subsiduary of Google, Inc. In June 2017, the firm had been acquired again - sold by Google - to the Japanese telecommunications and technology company SoftBank. An MIT spinoff involved in SBIR from 1998 through 2009, Boston Dynamics is an engineering company, developing robots and softwares for human simulation. It offers BigDog, a quadruped robot for travel on rough-terrain; PETMAN, an anthropomorphic robot for testing equipment; RISE, a robot that climbs vertical surfaces; and SquishBot, a shape-changing chemical robot that moves through tight space. The company also provides DI-Guy software development toolkit, a set of C++ libraries and content that enables users to add realistic human characters to application; DI-Guy artificial intelligence that adds brains to DI-Guy characters so they react instantly to events; DI-Guy scenario, a tool designed for human simulation; and DI-Guy motion editor, a tool that lets users to create new motions DI-Guy characters
