Alexandria, VA - August 27, 2013 -- Applied Technical Systems was recently notified of its status as a successful offeror under the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program for their proposal to develop a Scalable, Secure Associative Database for the Office of Naval Research.
In its proposed approach, ATS describes the design and development of a distributed associative database that would be built using open, non-proprietary industry standards. The solution must be capable of handling petabyte-scale data sets with unique security requirements. While the conventional relational model of data has been a mainstay of IT systems for almost 40 years, the volume and velocity of data that organizations are now collecting and storing have strained these traditional systems to their breaking point. Enterprises are now looking for alternatives that address users' needs to quickly retrieve high fidelity answers to their analytical questions.
"This is a fantastic win that builds on ATS' rich history in working with complex, inter-connected datasets at scale," said Ken Smith, ATS Chief Scientist. "ATS designed and developed what could be considered one of the earliest associative or graph databases over 20 years ago with the introduction of our Contiguous Connection Model (CCM). I am excited at this opportunity to build on that legacy and develop a substantially more scalable and secure datastore that preserves all the power and expressivity of a relationship-focused model."
Founded in 1980, ATS is a leader in software, services and solutions that help the government and businesses transform data to decisions. Headquartered in Silverdale, Washington, ATS also has offices in Alexandria, Virginia and Suffolk, Virginia.
