Entrepreneur Magazine has tapped the CEO of a biomedical company in Kansas City, Kan., as one of "2013's Entrepreneurial Women to Watch."
The January issue of Entrepreneur recognizes Maria Flynn for leading Orbis Biosciences Inc., which caters to the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries. The company's particle-control technology applications span developing vaccines that include follow-up doses and boosting the flavor of ready-to-eat meals for the military, Entrepreneur reported.
Orbis is in the Bioscience & Technology Business Center incubator at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The Kansas City Business Journal recognized Flynn in 2011 as one of its "Women Who Mean Business."
At the time, Flynn, who spent five years at Cerner Corp. before joining Orbis in 2008, indicated that Orbis wouldn't be her final venture — her goal is to become a serial entrepreneur.
"It's that entrepreneurial drive," she said then. "I'll go on to do other businesses after this, so from a professional perspective, it's leaving business legacies, and multiples of them."
