Wi-Sense LLC is structured around developing environmental exposure sensor devices for real-time monitoring of airborne pollutants and hazardous chemicals: technology-based low-cost wearable sensor arrays, functionally referred to as Mobile Environmental Exposure Personal Sensors (MEEPS). Relevant for both persons having asthma and for occupational safety use, devices as designed for simultaneous exposure measurements of multiple chemicals (e.g. ozone and volatile organic compounds) in the ambient personal microenvironment, a particular target for use are asthma patients. MEEPS will provide smart phone alerts based on personal exposure levels enabling patient or caregiver to take proactive actions potentially avoiding a morbid outcome e.g. asthma attack). With no such device current available, the firm's SBIR funding successfully demonstrated technical feasibility and commercial potential of a wearable personal sensor to detect ozone: a significant health hazard for asthma.
