SOAL has been working in concert with DDU Magnetics (IL), University of Illinois at Chicago (IL), Industrial Machining and Design (Ohio), and Integrated Magnetics (CA) to complete the development and licensing agreement of advanced brushed permanent magnet DC motor for electric vehicles and windmill power generators. The firm's Stationary Armature Motor (SAM) combines the benefits of AC and DC electric motors. having the thermal efficiency and power density of a brushless AC motor, but with the direct drive capability and lower cost per HP of a DC motor. Due to its permanent magnet design it is also capable of regenerative braking, which is new for a DC motor.
