In July 2014, Nuventix was acquired by New Hampshire based privately held firm Aavid Thermalloy, LLC that designs, manufactures, and distributes thermal management solutions for electronics companies. Formerly known as Innovative Fluidics, Inc., Nuventix is an active thermal management solutions company offering novel solutions for the microelectronics industry. Based on research by Professor Ari Glezer of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Nuventix-developed SynJetî module is a newly patented synthetic jet cooling technology that utilizes turbulent pulses of air generated from an electromagnetic actuator. highly efficient air cooling of devices such as laptop computers at a fraction of the flow rate of traditional fans. Personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cell phones are other devices where SynJets could be used to cool processors. In addition to SynJets, Nuventix has developed a two-phase cooling technology called VIDA for high-power servers and devices with a self-contained, pump-free spray cooling mechanism. The firm offers small air cooling solutions; electronics cooling solutions for mobile computing, small form factor, industrial, and enterprise applications; and telecom thermal management solutions for back offices, base stations, tower mounted devices, and bulk air flow movement applications. The company also offers wall wash, spotlight, twist module, and LED heatsinks; industrial/high bay/low bay, spotlight/track light, wall wash, twist module, down light, outdoor, pendant/pendulum, and rectangular module LED coolers; and LED cooling solutions for light engine manufacturers. Its products are also used for data center, industrial automation, PC, medical, LED lighting, and other applications.
