In December 2002, Fibersense was acquired by Northup Grumman. The firm began as a friendly spin-off from Northrop Corporation to commercialize advanced fiber optic technology for gyroscopes and other sensor products and became a leading supplier of navigation systems and inertial sensing systems and a leading designer and manufacturer of a new generation of fiber optics gyroscopes (FOG) and other sensor products. Fibersense navigation and gyro products contain state-of-the-art optics and electronics often requiring ultra high precision. The firm's gyro technology is extremely flexible and scaleable. Fibersense Technology Corporation is focused to commercialization of advanced fiber optic technology for gyroscopes and other sensor products. The Company has completed product development of its own solid state fiber optic rotation sensors which are replacing the existing mechanical gyroscope technology common in present generation guidance and navigational systems. Combining the reliable long life of solid state components with the flexibility and simplicity of fiber optics to achieve superior performance at lowest cost, products are used in a wide variety of applications from mining equipment, to military programs, to space.
