Eureka Genomics, a spinout of technology from the University of Houston Bioinformatics Lab, was acquired in May 2015 by Affymetrix, itself an SBIR firm. Eureka Genomics now operates as a subsidiary of Affymetrix, developing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based assays and diagnostics applied to the discovery of novel microorganisms associated with cancers and other life threatening diseases. Affymetrix will be utilizing Eureka Genomicsâ technologies as Eureka Genotyping Solution and Services for use in a wide range of routine animal and plant testing applications through an early access program. The company's technology platform uses proprietary software, algorithms and database to build bioinformatics applications and services, focusing NGS assay design and translating data into useful, comprehensive and powerful analysis of NGS data
