In December 2012, Applied Physical Sciences Corporation (APSC) was acquired by General Dynamics and became part of GD Marine Systems Group. APSC is a research, development and engineering consulting firm specializing in acoustics, signal processing, marine hydrodynamics and electromagnetics. In the service areas of acoustics, hydrodynamics, electromagnetics, signal processing, and manufacturing, the firm provides solutions to customers through applied R&D projects for government sponsors such as the Office of Naval Research, the Naval Sea Systems Command and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency; Engineering modeling and simulation in support of Naval ship design and subsystem concept development including quiet propulsion, vehicle silencing, sonar and hydrodynamics; Detection, classification, and tracking algorithm development for sonar, radar, navigation and general purpose surveillance systems; prototype sensor and system development including: active and passive sonar systems; acoustic test facility infrastructure; monitoring and surveillance systems; and vector-sensor based systems. In September 2006, APS acquired Acoustech Corporation, establishing APS as an industry leader and innovator in the field of directional underwater transducers. In July 2007, APS acquired C&M Technology Inc, developer and producing oceanographic data collection systems and special purpose underwater devices for government laboratories, universities, and industry.
