The need for improved on-base manufacturing of critical materials using only available on-site resources is critical for all DAF missions, especially in preparation for logistics under attack. In this proposed D2P2 project, SkyNano will adapt our novel electrochemical multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) production technology to operate in remote, rugged environments, with only electricity and scrap metal as inputs. The resulting MWCNT products can be used in a variety of mission-extending applications including retooling of composite materials without sacrificing performance and properties, and in the use of water purification. The project will engage heavily with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, and will culminate in a prototype development and front-end engineering design of a deployable mobile unit for on-base operations in remote and rugged environments.
