Formerly known as IntAct Labs LLC, when it spun out of MIT, Cambrian Innovation Inc, develops advanced wastewater solutions using biotechnology. In some measure anchored in a NASA funded project to explore how advances in bioelectricity could enhance water management in space, the firm's technology helps industrial, government and agricultural customers monitor operations and recover energy, resources, and clean water from process water and wastewater streams. Cambrian's premier product, EcoVolt uses microbes to clean the water while producing methane gas. With core competences being microbial energy conversion, electrochemistry, and bioelectrochemical systems, Cambrian Innovation develops solutions to reduce the tension between economics and the environment, extracting energy and value-added products from what might otherwise be considered waste. The firms solutions have applications across industrial sectors, including water, energy, fuels, and renewable natural gas.
