Engaging technologies that the principals of the firm had worked onat at Carnegie Mellon, ESTAT Actuation is using new electroadhesive clutch technology dramatically to reduce the weight, size, and cost of actuators. The objective and goal is to provide engineers with powerful actuation hardware that makes their robot or machine more dynamic, capable, and affordable. Using electro-adhesion enables the firm's clutch to quickly stiffen or release when a voltage is applied. The expectation is that using minimal composite materials and many clutch layers will allow achievementof high performance in a lightweight and efficient device.
