Fosmo Med develops technology that allows IV solutions to be made from fresh water - clean or dirty - at the point of care, enabling IV bags to be shipped without water, reducing shipping and storage costs as well as elimating risks of leakages. Currently, the cost of shipping IV bags can be 8x to 50x the cost of product. The company's primary product is called Maji, Swahili for water, and is a field hydration system for intravenous use based on Forward Osmosis (FO) technology. Maji reduces the cost of shipping and storage, making them much more viable and cost effective for disaster relief organizations such as the Red Cross, governments and military around the world. In addition, the company has developed a product to combat malnutirition and dehydration, Ola, which produces a sterile, Half-strength Darrow solution with 5% glucose for intravenous administration, which is recommended by WHO to treat children suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.
