In August 2011, Thoratec bought Levitronix's medical business for $110mm in cash, with the potential for an additional $40mm in earn-outs based on product revenue through 2015. The fluid handling unit of Levitronix was not part of the transaction and will continue to market pumps and flow meters under the Levitronix name. Formerly doing business as Pharos LLC, and then as Thoratec LLC, and having a Swiss facilityin addition to the MA loaction, the firm designed and supplied magnetically levitated bearingless motor technology solutions for customers worldwide. Specializing in supplying blood pumps to the medical community; and ultra-pure fluid handling devices for microelectronics, life science, and industrial applications, company offered pumps, pump-tank mixers, POU pressure kits, and flow controllers. Also manufactured is an acute pediatric surgical support system. The company's products are used in various applications, including CMP slurry, surface preparation, plating, ultra pure water, pharma and biotech, food and beverage, nanotechnology, chemical process industry, and further high purity markets.
