Public Profile

Emitech, Inc. specializing in application of nanotechnology innovations in the fields of nanoscience, advanced electronic materials and remote sensing. The firm is working on application of organic nanomaterials and nanocomposites for the development of new electronic devices such as chemical nanosensors, photodetectors, hybrid photovoltaics, transparent conductive coating, electro/optomechanical actuators, OLEDs, composite lasers and integrated optics. An example of innovative technology under developed is a photo-actuating device made from carbon nanotubes and ionomeric polymers that demonstrate a significant mechanical response under illumination of visible light. More recent efforts of the firm have been in the field of Nanomaterials allowing for development of novel chemosensors/sensor arrays for precise and reliable detection of small molecule gases. Integration of a transducer and analyzing elements with sensory nanocomposite can significantly improve the device's performance, dramatically increase sensitivity and selectivity, as well as reduce response and recovery time. The firm has two prototypes in development for nanocomposite optical chemosensors for explosives detection: the Mark I, a handheld detector, and the Mark II, an installation for robotic vehicles. These have demonstrated fast and accurate detection of the most common explosives: PETN, RDX and TNT with the technology capable of detecting both particulates and vapors of explosive materials using a real-time sampling system (no swabbing) based on the thermal air-jet technique.
