In 2010 Amberwave Systems Corporation - which had been focusing on semiconductor applications (and had raised serious Venture Capital) ceased operation. Soon after that close-down, several former employees purchased assets from the defunct company and started Amberwave Inc. The shift in focus was to address commercialization of Silicon Germanium-graded buffer technology from MIT with principals of the firm applying their materials expertise to develop a new kind of solar cell.
