FiveFocal recently completed the ARMY Phase II SBIR for visual navigation by delivering hardware to the Army sponsor. The system is a wearable stereo camera system which utilizes custom optics designed to optimize both field of view and on-axis resolution for improved visual navigation. The system also contains a low grade IMU on board to adaptively modify the algorithm to better maintain feature detection during periods of high rotation rate. Custom client software was created to aid the user in focusing the cameras using real-time MTF tools, for displaying dual video streams from the cameras, and for selecting the feature detection methods to use among other functionality.
