New York, NY | The builders at Transcendent Endeavors have launched Transcendent Lab, a new startup incubator supporting mission-driven companies that are tackling grand-scale challenges in healthcare, social service, and education. Transcendent Lab will help selected companies accelerate their R&D and go-to-market process, raise non-dilutive funding of over $1 million per project, and complete a rigorous solution development phase that is supported by partners such as the Veteran Affairs Center for Innovation (VACI).
"The Transcendent Lab draws from our first-hand experience taking startups from the idea stage to commercial success," says Founder and CEO Bill Z. Tan. "It's the type of program we wish we had access to when we first started out."
Nationwide applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis, with up to six (6) slots available for the Fall 2013 class. Startup teams working on innovations that have potential for both commercialization and public benefit are strongly encouraged to apply at t19s.com/lab.
Tan and his colleagues at Transcendent Endeavors have enjoyed a successful track record developing products that overcome communication barriers in health and education for those with the greatest need, including linguistically-isolated households, people with low functional health literacy and the elderly. Over the years, they have been tapped for their expertise in securing highly sought-after Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funding and developing problem-solving innovations by many field leaders, including the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
As a partner for the Transcendent Lab incubator, the VACI will provide participating startups with the opportunity to engage with the vast network of resources at the VA, including clinicians and administrators who can serve as potential advisors and partners.
Topics of interest for the Fall 2013 class include:
• In healthcare: patient and caregiver engagement; process improvement across the continuum of care; and provider enablement and productivity enhancement.
• In education: use of children-oriented, interactive media (e.g. animation, music, games) for academic as well as health-related subject matters; family and stakeholder engagement; and teacher performance enhancement tools.
• Innovations that leverage any of the following disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply: computational linguistics; behavioral economics; communications and social marketing; and community-based participatory research.
