TechAmerica San Diego, formerly known as the American Electronics Association, named 11 local companies as winners for its annual High Tech Awards.
The awards program is in its 17th year and is designed to showcase innovative technology companies. Each company is judged based on innovation, products or services, marketplace validation, perseverance and community involvement.
More than 500 technology professional attended a luncheon Friday where the winners were announced. They are:
Anakam, which won in the software category; Anonymizer, which won for Internet/Web product; Z Microsystems for computers and related products; Entropic Communications for communications; DefenseWeb Technologies for defense information technology; Quantum Design for semiconductors; RASIRC for analytical instruments; GenMark Diagnostics for medical technologies; Reaction Design for clean technology; and D&K Engineering for contract services.
The winner in the emerging growth category was Seacoast Science. The Carlsbad firm makes micro sensors for the chemical detection market. Founded in 2003, it specializes in MEMS — or Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems — technology. The company hold licenses from the US Naval Research Laboratory for the manufacturing and use of chemical-selective polymers.
