Aimed at both commercial and military applications, Tahoe RF Semiconductor's BeamDirect phased-array technology improves the bandwidth and sensitivity of phased-array radio systems and enables extremely fine beam-steering angle resolutions. The fabless semiconductor company has implemented BeamDirect as a single-chip solution in a standard CMOS IC process and reports improvements in size, weight, and power over competing technologies.
BeamDirect can be applied to multiple application areas and market segments, such as point-to-point communication links, satellite TV receivers, navigation systems, and signal-intelligence systems. In point-to-point communication systems, BeamDirect enables the communication links to be active even when radios get misaligned due to weather or wind-sway. In satellite communication links, BeamDirect can help maintain the directionality of the receive signals electronically without requiring costly manual alignment.
Applications of BeamDirect technology are being reported in three different papers at the International Microwave Symposium 2013 in Seattle now through June 7th (sessions TU3A-5, RTUC-3, and WFE).
