The market need and demand for a low-cost, mobile, all-in-one monitor of major vital signs, symptoms and behavior for individual consumers and virtually all medical practitioners cannot be overstated. Such a monitor, which can measure electrocardiogram (ECG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature and respiration, would provide a powerful tool for the diagnostic evaluation and remote tracking of patients’ status at home, on the road, and in ambulatory, emergency and in-hospital settings.

Description of the system: With the support of multiple NIH SBIR/STTR awards, PinMed has developed a 24-channel, all-in-one technological platform for personalized vital-sign monitoring, which includes 1- to 12-lead ECG (cleared by the FDA for both diagnostic 12-lead ECG and long-term monitoring), physical activity, symptoms and behavior with real-time, two-way, wireless transmission and pattern-recognition-based analysis on a smart phone and on an Internet cloud.

This platform is currently being expanded to include blood pressure, respiration and oxygen saturation (the prototype has been completed). The system learns the pattern of the patient’s data and tracks changes in this pattern over time; detects early warning signs before an event occurs; and tailors the smart-phone app using the Internet cloud to achieve the highest accuracy.
