July 8th, 2020 -- Albuquerque, NM -- Osazda Energy has hired Dr. April Jeffries, a postdoctoral researcher and a Ph.D. graduate from Arizona State University, as Director of Business Development for the company. With expertise in developing novel metallization methods for photovoltaic devices and reliability, Dr. Jeffries brings her experience in scientific research to move innovations from laboratory to market. In addition to her Ph.D., she holds an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Arizona State University and a B.S. in Physics from the University at Albany. Outside the laboratory, Dr. Jeffries acted as Entrepreneurial Lead in the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps program, where she used evidence-based industry research to discover and advance technological value. Her past, present, and future work is driven by the opportunity and necessity to deliver clean, affordable energy technologies.
Osazda Energy team has also hired Nicolas Dowdy, a University of New Mexico student, in the role of Chemical Engineering Intern. Dowdy is currently pursuing his B.S in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Materials Processing at the University of New Mexico. Nicolas has experience in chemical functionalization of inorganic materials and their mechanical stress testing and analysis. Dowdy is currently optimizing the integration of multi-walled carbon nanotubes into silver paste to make a more cohesive product.
Osazda Energy, a New Mexico based start-up company, was recently selected to receive a $1,250,000 award from the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) to advance their innovations in solar manufacturing.
"This DOE funding provides an important opportunity for small businesses like Osazda to take their innovative technology to market by supporting local business development and commercialization efforts through highly integrated programs like SETO," says Dr. Sang M. Han, the Chief Technology Officer of Osazda Energy. Han further articulates, "building a strong team in New Mexico will help stimulate our local economy and gain the attention of high-level investors and manufactures."
Osazda Energy intends to apply its advanced metallization technology to a variety of solar applications, including space vehicles, UAV, and mobile power units. Osazda's goal is to become a strong contributor to U.S. solar manufacturing by improving durability for the sustainable energy market.
In addition, Osazda Energy was selected as a part of the Solar Energy Technologies Office Fiscal Year 2019 funding program, an effort to invest in new projects that will lower solar electricity costs, while working to boost solar manufacturing, reduce red tape, and make solar systems more resilient and sustainable. Osazda Energy is one of several manufacturing innovation projects with early-stage product ideas that can lower solar costs and rapidly achieve commercialization, with an emphasis on projects that contribute to a strong U.S. solar manufacturing sector.
