Carbon Dioxide and Natural Gas Converted to Valuable Industrial Chemicals
Monmouth Junction, NJ (PRWEB) May 21, 2013
Liquid Light, Inc., (http://llchemical.com) today announced the issuance of U.S. patent 8,444,844 entitled "Electrochemical Co-Production of a Glycol and an Alkene Employing Recycled Halide." Developed by scientists and engineers working at Liquid Light's Monmouth Junction, NJ research facility, the technology co-produces two chemicals, such as ethylene glycol and ethylene, from carbon dioxide and natural gas. The chemicals can then be used to make everyday items such as soda bottles.
Carbon dioxide is the least expensive and most abundant carbon source for industrial chemical production. By using carbon dioxide as a starting material, Liquid Light's technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously enjoying the economic benefit of a low cost feedstock.
"Liquid Light is honored to be granted another U.S. patent," said Kyle Teamey, company President and CEO. "Our engineers are working vigorously to expand Liquid Light's technology. Today's grant of U.S. patent 8,444,844 is evidence of their success and a significant addition to our growing IP portfolio. This is another important step in the commercialization of a technology that could bring both societal and economic benefits."
About Liquid Light
Liquid Light is a privately held corporation developing new catalysts and processes for the efficient and affordable conversion of carbon dioxide to a wide variety of high value chemicals. Liquid Light's patented catalytic platform uses energy from any clean energy source (e.g. solar, wind, hydroelectric, and nuclear) to electrochemically drive the process.
