Medipacs Mini-Infuser™“pain pump” product is intended for the administration of medication to alleviate pain. This product permits medical personnel to replace repeated manual nurse injections of narcotics with a programmed device which is a simpler, safer and more economical alternative to current practice. It also serves as a safer and lower cost alternative to current PCA pumps.
The Mini-Infuser delivers drugs in either NCA™or PCA mode for a three day period. In the NCA mode, the Mini-Infuser can be programmed to dispense specified dosages of the pain medication at specified times or a nurse may select and trigger the desired dose through the display. In PCA mode, the patient would be permitted to influence the dispensing of the pain medication by pushing a control button on the Mini-Infuser.
The Market for the Mini-Infuser is approximately $2 billion and addresses the nurse labor shortage head on. Studies indicate when implemented in an average size hospital (400 beds) time savings to current practices equals 26 full time employees per year. This along with product cost savings equals as much as $4 Million per hospital or $ 3-6 billion in savings for the US healthcare system per year.
