PowerQuick, Inc., (Troy, MI), has partnered with Superior Design Concepts (Sterling Heights, MI) to develop and market powered ascenders—personal lifting devices used for industrial rigging, search-and-rescue, and other applications.

PowerQuick, which evolved from Missile Defense Agency-funded Quoin International, Inc., has commercialized technology that grew from a project originally funded by the agency. MDA funded PowerQuick parent Quoin through an SBIR Phase II award in 2000, as well as through various Phase I awards.

The company, which had been headquartered in Nevada, moved its manufacturing operations to India for about a year before returning to the United States and relocating to Michigan in 2010. Since then, PowerQuick has worked with new manufacturing partner Superior Design Concepts to boost production efforts—in the process inking agreements with several partners to distribute products internationally and constructing a new building for manufacturing.

Although PowerQuick's core business rests on producing the personal ascenders, the company's capabilities include general engineering/research services, with specialties in high-speed rotating devices such as micro-turbines and flywheels. Product design and development, as well as building international distribution networks, are also company strengths.
