Dr. Tracy Scull (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Janis Kupersmidt (Co-Investigator) have received an R21 award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to create a web-based media literacy education program to reduce risky sexual practices (e.g., intoxicated sex, unprotected sex, sex with multiple partner, sexual violence) in community college students. The long-range goals of this project are to advance the science of prevention by better understanding the cognitive mechanisms (e.g., media-related cognitions) associated with substance use in relation to sexual behaviors in older adolescents, and to develop an evidence-based substance abuse and sexual health preventive intervention program that can be easily scaled and readily disseminated to community college students.
