No doubt by now you've at least heard of Wheels of Zeus, the mysterious start-up from Apple co-founder Steve "The Woz" Wozniak. It's been known from the beginning that the company would work on something that would "help everyday people track everyday things."

Woz has now admitted that the device is basically a GPS and a 900MHz RF ID tag for things you don't want to lose. It would alert you when your car is moving and you're not at the wheel, or tell you where you lost cat has run.

The company has a reported US$6 million in venture funding from Mobius, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Palo Alto investors back in January 2002. It is now an undisclosed amount that I would bet eclipses the former. In addition to juicy details on the device itself, Woz announced his new line-up, including: Frank Canova (formerly of Palm, now leading product development for wOz), Gina Clark (PalmSource, marketing director), and Rich Rifredi (Pixo, COO).

Sounds like a dream-team for mobile devices. Something tells me the as-of-yet untold details will make this just a few dozen times more interesting.
