Somerville-based CoolChip Technologies, which is trying to revolutionize the fans that are built into computers, has raised $3.3 million in new funding out of $3.6 million sought, according a recent regulatory filing.
Co-founder William Sanchez, president and CEO of the company, told TechCrunch last December that the company's fans are half the size and achieve 35-40 percent greater thermal performance than traditional PC fans.
Sanchez served from 2009-2011 as president and director of Power Systems for VECARIUS, Inc., a startup that commercialized energy harvester power converters. Sanchez is a Ph.D candidate in electrical engineering at MIT, according to the company's website.
The Securities and Exchange Commission filing lists 29 investors. Also listed on the filing is CoolChip co-founder Steven Stoddard, the vice president of technology and operations; Tibor Toth of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center; and George Dannecker, president and CEO of Vette Corp., a New Hampshire-based electronics manufacturer that specializes in cooling technology.
In 2012, the company became the first team from MIT to win the MIT Clean Energy Prize at the time. The team got a $200,000 prize, beating out 80 total team entries from 47 universities.
The company is based in Somerville cleantech incubator Greentown Labs.
