Newark, Delaware -- ANP Technologies, Inc. (ANP) announced today the extension of its NIDS® rapid bio-threat/bio-warfare agent detection offerings into international markets. Similar to its product lines currently sold to the U.S. Government, the commercial NIDS® handheld biological agent detection system can rapidly detect and identify B. anthracis, Y. pestis, F. tularensis, Ricin toxin, Botulinum toxin A and Botulinum toxin B, as well as SEB toxin in white powders and various aqueous samples within 15 minutes.
The NIDS® detection system consists of multiplexed handheld assays and a handheld reader capable of analyzing assay results under various operational conditions. While exhibiting superior sensitivity and low false positive rates, ANP's handheld assays do not suffer from a Hook effect, a false negative result in the presence of high concentrations of biological agents typical of a white powder event. Hook effect is a serious operational deficiency for all traditional handheld assays, which could result in mass casualties during a bio-terror attack.

This reliance meant that we were unable to offer these products to governments and first responders internationally.
