HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- AEgis Technologies Group announced Wednesday it has been awarded a $9 million contract to modify and deliver two 360-degree Improved Moving Target Simulator (IMTS) devices to offer Stinger training to the U.S. Marine Corps.

AEgis, which is headquartered in Huntsville, revealed last week that it was the winner of the Full and Open competition by the Marine Corps System Command (MARSYSCOM) Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS), which is based in Orlando.

"We are proud to be selected to build these important training simulators for the Marines," said Del Beilstein, vice president of business development, technology solutions. "AEgis has worked extensively in providing training and simulation solutions for both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, and we are excited for the opportunity to deliver these IMTS devices for the United States Marine Corps."

The multimillion dollar contract will allow AEgis to provide state-of-the-art IMTS training systems to the Marine Corps at its Base Camp Pendleton and Air Station Cherry Point. The IMTS training system consists of 40-foot diameter hemispherical dome screen panels with several computer-generated images that can be projected within the 360-degree IMTS dome.

Up to three, two-person Stinger Missile teams can train missile engagements against aircraft that pose a threat. Using real, inert Stinger Missile tubes, each team's training performance can be tracked and scored from an Instructor Operator System (IOS).

"The IMTS is designed to be completely immersive for trainees with high-fidelity sound and graphics, along with simulated weather, clouds, and background environments," a release stated.
