Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT) continued to expand its contract R&D activities in the past year. During that period, the company was awarded more than 20 new government related and commercially funded R&D contract to develop novel thermal management technologies. Several notable examples include:
Advanced vapor compression systems for cooling of high temperature equipment on aircraft,
Heat exchangers with thermal energy storage features,
High-heat-flux two-phase mini/microchannel cooling,
Cold plate and heat exchanger design,
Chip-level cooling,
Coatings for improved boiling performance,
Nanoscale corrosion resistant coatings for liquid coolant channels,
Atomistic-level simulations of high temperature reactive processes,
Coupled Electro-thermal device level modeling for next generation SiC and GaN based devices .
In addition, ACT's R&D programs made significant advances in the past year in the following energy related applications:
Waste energy recovery,
Thermoelectric power generators,
Solar fuels and gasification, and
Highly efficient fuel reformers for use with solid oxide fuel cells.
Government funding agencies for these programs included DOD (Army, Navy, NAVAIR, MDA, Naval Research Laboratory, OSD, Air Force, DARPA), DOE, and NASA.
"We continue to expand our core R&D business while maintaining our focus on customer satisfaction," said Dr. Howard Pearlman, Manager of the Technology Development Group at ACT. "In the past year, our strong efforts to diversify our technologies have been quite successful. This will enable us to expand our future product offerings for new markets."
Many of ACT's R&D programs are in collaboration with industrial and academic partners. Some of the academic partners in the past year include: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Michigan, North Carolina State University, California Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, Lehigh University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, Pennsylvania State University, Texas A&M University, University of Texas Dallas, and Villanova University.
