Westwood-based fuel cell maker Acumentrics Corp. has landed a 3 1/2-year, $15.6 million grant to continue the development of the company's tubular solid oxide fuel cell technology, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
The research will focus on improving the durability and increasing the overall output of Acumentrics' solid oxide fuel cell, while also reducing the cost.
The first phase of the system development was funded by DOE's Fossil Energy Solid-State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA) program, which it began in 2003.
Founded in 1994, Acumentrics is developing fuel cell and related technologies for military and commercial applications.
