ZURICH--Power and technology group ABB Ltd. Friday said it has agreed to buy Los Gatos Research Inc., a U.S.-based maker of gas analyzers used in research and environmental monitoring.
ABB didn't disclose the terms of the deal, which it expects to complete by the end of the third quarter of 2013.
Los Gatos, based in Mountain View, California, employs nearly 40 people and provides analyzers and services for customers needing real-time measurement of trace gases and isotopes for research and environmental monitoring.
Its laser-based measurement strategies allow for non-destructive analysis of gases and liquids, ABB said.
"Los Gatos Research fills a gap in our technology portfolio and brings a host of new solutions that are vital to industrial customers, such as oil & gas production and transportation, combustion, emissions, power generation and environmental monitoring," said Kishore Sundararajan, ABB's global business unit manager in measurement products.
The company, which has expected 2013 revenue of around $14million, will be integrated into ABB's Process Automation division when the acquisition is completed, said Zurich-based ABB.
