In July 2013, WellAWARE Systems was acquired by Healthsense Inc., a Mendota Heights, Minn.-based provider of aging services technologies. Formerly known as Home Guardian LLC, WellAWARE™ Systems develops next-generation wellness monitoring solutions for the full continuum of senior care including Home Health, Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing. These technology-based systems are designed and engineered to provide meaningful physiological data to caregivers and family members in support of improved healthcare. WellAWARE Systems, in partnership with two of the country’s largest not-for-profit providers of senior care, Volunteers of America (VOA) and The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society (GSS), offers the opportunity for proactive, unobtrusive and passive monitoring through an innovative approach to wellness and safety. The company was founded in 2000 by biomedical engineers and software developers at the Medical Automation Research Center at the University of Virginia. The goal was to develop technology in support of higher quality, more efficient, and less costly health care.
