In October 2005, Web CT was acquired in a cash transaction by e-learning company Blackbroad Inc (NASDAQ BBBB). In 1999, Vancouver based company WebCT had been acquired by Universal Learning Technology (ULT), a dynamic, rapidly growing Massachusetts company that developed Web-based teaching and learning platforms. Renamed WebCT, the company has capitalized on WebCT's vast installed customer base and strategic alliances, and on ULT's business acumen, financial backing, and technological and marketing expertise. WebCT provides e-learning systems to institutions of higher education. The company's systems enable institutions to expand the traditional boundaries of teaching, streamline the cost of education, and enhance the student learning experience.
