VR&D is focused to the advancement of numerical optimization techniques - enabling the firm to become a premier software company, developing and marketing a number of software tools, providing professional services and training, and engaging in ongoing advanced research. Released in 1987, the firm's flagship optimizer, DOT (Design Optimization Tools) - a library of software modules that is designed to help solve a variety of nonlinear constrained or unconstrained optimization problems. In 1989, the development of a completely new structural analysis and optimization program called GENESIS was launched. GENESIS was designed from the start to be a fully integrated analysis and optimization program. Formally released as a commercial product in 1992 and continually enhanced since then, in 2001, we released GENESIS version 7.0. In 1996, we started the development of the general-purpose graphics based design optimization software VisualDOC. VisualDOC version 1.0 was released in 1998. VisualDOC supports addition of optimization to almost any design task. VisualDOC version 2.1 was released in 2001.
