It seems likely that, at the time of award, Traxel may not in fact been SBIR eligible by virtue of the a fact that the parent firm was Canadian. In May 2009, Canadian firm Traxtal was acquired by Royal Philips Electroncis. Philips had had a partnership with Traxtal to provide integrated soft tissue therapeutic and diagnostic navigation solutions since 2006. Traxtal became part of the Ultrasound business within the Philips Healthcare sector. Traxtalâs PercuNav systems helps physicians track the tip of a needle when performing minally invasive procedures, avoiding the need to constantly image the patient. Traxtal was founded exclusively to develop advanced designs of instrumentation for image guided surgery - tracking devices and instruments. Research partners are from leading institutions and many of products are in use in at labs and universities around the world. Several leading commercial computer assisted surgery vendors have chosen to use Traxtal products in their systems. Traxtal has introduced an Image Guided Intervention workstation, the PercuNav. Computer assisted image guided interventions require complex software and hardware systems with soft tissue navigation presenting many unique challenges. The Traxtal PercuNav is a culmination of this effort, combining a unique set of instrumentation, algorithms, and workflows to address multiple applications.
