Public Profile

With a limited SBIR presence and that some years ago, it should nonetheless be noted that ThinGap Corporation in May 2022 Allied Motion (Nasdaq: AMOT) was reported as having acquired ThinGap LLC. A leading developer and manufacturer of high performance, zero cogging slotless motors for use in applications that require precise motion in a compact, yet high-torque-to-volume solutions, hinGap was indicated as enabling expansion of Allied’s precision motion capabilities. The addition to the Allied team also advances the Company’s strategy to provide integrated motion solutions in the robotics, semiconductor and instrumentation markets where ThinGap’s key motor characteristics are well suited for the high precision, smooth motion requirements in these exacting applications. Key current markets for ThinGap include aerospace, defense, and medical. the firm manufactures a line of brush and brushless motors utilizing a patented electromotive coil design and high efficiency motor controllers. The electromotive coil technology replaces the iron core and wire windings used in conventional motors with a precision-machined copper sheet. This produces a higher copper-packing density and higher copper-to-total-volume ratio than motors with circular or square wire windings. The unique coil enables motors with higher power-to-weight ratios, excellent power conversion efficiencies, a wider range of speed and torque capabilities, lower heat generation, higher temperature capability and lower electrical resistance. By eliminating magnetic saturation, cogging, ripple torque and radial distortion, ThinGap motors deliver smoother and quieter operation with a large operational band
