Tertl Studos is in the business of building tooling and games to connect people with powerful ideas. Design research features a tight loop among prototyping, piloting, and theory. The firm's style of design research seeks insight through analysis of paradigm usage cases, as well as wide-ranging comparisons and analogies. New mathematical or computational models are developed when they are needed. Prior work (at Cambridge MA based TERC, Inc.) included the visual data tool Tabletop, recently improved and expanded as InspireData, and the beloved and best-selling math adventure Zoombinis Logical Journey. These products illustrate some of what the firm strive for in designs: accessibility, depth, coherence, rich visual representations, and maximal flexibility for the users/players own agenda.
