For several years prior to March of 1989, three engineers worked independently and together on the development and enhancement of numerous U.S. Government-owned computer simulations. Through their experience with such simulations, these engineers became convinced that simulations of significantly greater capability could be developed and that the development was much more likely to be successful if it was undertaken by a commercial company without government sponsorship. Based on these convictions, the three resigned from their positions and by April 1989 had founded a new company, a company whose single technical goal was to develop software that would define the state-of-the-art in computer-based simulation and make this software available commercially. The result was the development of a family of simulation products now known as FLAMES®, products that have accomplished Ternion's goal beyond even the founders' expectations. Ternion® Corporation is a small business, entirely privately owned, and all the stockholders are full-time Ternion employees. Ternion is organized into two distinct divisions: the Software Products Division and the Engineering Services Division. The Software Products Division is responsible for the development of FLAMES and for all of the marketing, sales, technical support, and training activities associated with FLAMES. The Engineering Services Division provides support to FLAMES customers in the form of expert consultation and custom software development. For those who might be curious, the word "ternion" means "a set of three." The company name and logo are based on the number of people who originally formed the company
