With the objective of enabling rapid, bedside surgical pathology, Surgivance is developing an advanced imaging system. Building on academic studies that indicate confocal tech can be highly sensitive and specific in cancer screening in academic studies, Surgivance is developing a lab-in-a-box toward cancer diagnosis in minutes as opposed to days. The firm's elegantly simple confocal technology have been shown to produce images that are indistinguishable from standard histopathology, but that - being digital - can be instantly transferable to electronic medical records. The NIH SBIR-funded research collaborations include personnel from New York University and Northwell Health. Further, software licensing arrangements have been made with with Oregon Health & Science University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
