Public Profile

A medical device company spun-out of Northwestern University, Surgical Innovation Associates (SIA) is structured around developing/improving a range of products used in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. The firm's initial product - a cost-effective, bioabsorbable surgical mesh product - has the potential to minimize long-term complications and to optimize outcomes for patients. Since the firm was founded, SIA has advanced its initial DuraSorb® product line from ideation through FDA 510k clearance and into the operating room. Much like an absorbable stitch, DuraSorb Monofilament Mesh is designed to integrate into the patient’s tissue providing strong support during the critical initial phases of healing - after which time, the product slowly dissolves within one year, leaving the patient free from foreign material. Additional products are under development for breast reconstruction and facial aesthetic applications. In Devember 2022 it was announced that Surgical Innovation Associates had been acquired by Integra LifeSciences for c. $5
