Addressing full implementation of a new process for cement production - that spun out of MIT - the principals of Sublime are developing a breakthrough process to make carbon-neutral cement. For the long-time over which cement has been being used, typically the process has been a fossil-fuel intensive thermal calciner. The new approach instead employs an electrochemical process that produces carbon-neutral lime at ambient temperatures with renewable electricity. The developing technology to decarbonize cement-making using intermittent renewable electricity is expected siginificantly to reduce the carbon footprint of an industry that currently produces 8% of global CO? emissions
