Springboard Engineering was initially established by a group of eight engineers previously employed by Maytag. The effort was to salvage the accumulated employee knowledge, equipment, and capabilities that was "let go" when in 2007 Maytag - now quite famously - closed down their Newton Iowa facility with dramatic adverse impact in that small town. With somelocal and federal assistance - including a DOE Phase I SBIR - the firm successfuly grew to employ over 40 persons providing mechanical, electrical and embedded software advisory design services, extensive performance and reliability testing, along with prototyping and injection molding capabilities. In 2011 was acquired international firm UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and has continued to grow its local presence.
