Sound Life Sciences is a computational health company building clinically validated software for mobile phones and smart speakers: hardware that most people already have in their possession and that - as such - appropriately structured - can provides almost entirely unobtrusive monitoring using software that detects changes in breathing for a variety of scenarios, from managing chronic diseases to averting life-threatening emergencies. Put to use, the wearer's Phone or smart speaker emits inaudible ultrasonic pulses that reflect off a person’s chest - reflections that are detected by the device’s microphone. Signal processing algorithms analyze the frequency shifts in the reflected signal to identify clinically meaningful respiratory changes. Respiration is communicated by the device to drive appropriate interventions in a variety of scenarios.
