Sonivate Medical Inc, - formerly doing business as Blacktoe Medical Inc, - has developed The SonicEye, a finger-mounted probe combining ultrasound imaging with simultaneous tactile feedbac - leaving both hands free to do work. Simple in concept, the finger-worn transducer is a disruptive technology: ultrasound is inherently low cost, portable, and safe but adoption has been hindered because current transducers are awkward to use for procedures and are challenging to learn how to use. The SMI)finger-worn transducer addresses these limitations allowing hands-free use for procedures while being also intuitive to use and to earn how to use because it leverages what the body already knows -- how to use the hands.By placing imaging technology directly into the hands and onto the fingers of medical professionals, the SonicEye brings new ultrasound applications to a host of clinical settings including trauma, wound assessment, mobile/ambulance/field imaging, guided procedures (liposuction, reconstructive surgery), biopsies, placement of difficult IVs and general surgery imaging. The SonicEye allows for more control, better placement, precise imaging, wider applicability for ultrasound use and improved ergonomic operation and relief from repetitive motion injury.
