Previously dba Veridian Surgical, LLC, Sonavex is a Johns Hopkins spin out developing medical imaging technology for detection of anastomotic blood clots - designed to provide clinicians with visualization of critical data directly at the point of care. Designated EchoSure, one of the firm's products detects blood clots prior to catastrophic and expensive surgical failures. The company's product EchoMark is a soft tissue marker used to mark surgical sites with ultrasound. Each year, hundreds of thousands of patients in the US undergo open surgical procedures that could benefit from post-operative ultrasound imaging to assess the surgical region or locate the original surgical site for additional procedures. One commonly known example is breast lumpectomy, where positive margins are found in more than 20% of cases, requiring re-excision. The ability to identify the surgical site in these cases is also beneficial for evaluating potential recurrences and guiding needle biopsies.
