Sierra Interventions has signed a CRADA with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) to undertake research on the interventional application of shape memory polymer foam technology. The Berkeley company hopes to develop shape memory foam devices for treating aneurysms, which can rupture causing a hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke is the primary cause of long-term disability in the U.S. Sierra Interventions, joined the Trivalley Technology Enterprise Center, a Livermore business incubator. The company hopes to develop foam devices to treat aneurysms. The company recently won a $100,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to prove its technology.
