SAFI-Tech has invented nanoparticles that possess an oxide membrane encapsulating liquid metal on the inside. Similar to that of a water balloon or paintball, when the membrane on the outside is fractured, punctured, smashed, or is broken in any manner, the liquid metal within the particle comes out and then solidifies. These particles can be applied in many ways including sprayed on surfaces to repair cracks or to provide a protective coating; poured into a mold and ultrasonically punctured, printed in a 3D printer or inkjet, punctured in small batches as in soldering, just to name a few methods of application.
